Near infrared monitoring of oxygenation and metabolism during brain hypoxia

摘要

Near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy as a new tool in analyzing brain oxygenation and metabolism has been applied to test different physiological phenomena. Eight New Zealand white rabbits were studied by a three wavelength (780nm, 810 nm and 840 nm) NIR spectroscopic monitor. Oxygenation and metabolism signals were interpreted by a matrix of equations derived from in vitro study. Brain oxygenation decreased at the onset of hypoxia but the arterial blood oxygenation decreased only when serious hypoxia was imposed. Brain metabolism was found to coincide with changes of brain oxygenation level.
