Abstract

We report our experience in treating a cervical internal carotid artery pseudoaneurysm with stenting. Patient was a 35-year-old female, who had a left upper neck mass for more than 5 years. Left carotid angiogram showed a pseudoaneurysm about 2.5 cm above the carotid bifurcation with an opening to the carotid artery of about 1 cm. It measures about 2.8 cm in craniocaudal dimension and about 2 cm in its greatest transverse diameter. In order to keep the internal carotid artery patent and obliterate the aneurysm, we selected to do stenting of the carotid artery. Wallstent was put in the internal carotid artery, covering the opening of the pseudoaneurysm. Follow up angiogram 3 months later showed obliteration of majority of the aneurysm lumen with patency of the internal carotid artery. Angiogram 8 months later showed complete obliteration of the aneurysm with patency of the internal carotid artery. Carotid stenting is the treatment of choice for extracranial cervical carotid artery aneurysm.
