Abstract
The high temperature microstructures in the Fe-8.7Al-28.3Mn-1C-5.5Cr alloy were investigated by means of optical microscopy, electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry. When the alloy underwent heat-treatment between 800 and 1400 °C, a (γ + Cr7C3) → γ → (γ + (α + B2 + DO3))-phase transition was observed. In addition, the aluminum and chromium contents influenced the liquidus temperature of the alloy. Other researchers have not previously observed these features in the Fe-Al-Mn-C-Cr alloy system.
