Computerized rotational vestibular test in clinical practice

Abstract

Background: Among the quantitative vestibular testing, the computerized rotational vestibular test is widely used due to the precise and physiological stimulus to evaluate the vestibulo-ocular reflex function of the horizontal semicircular canals. It includes two major components: sinusoidal harmonic acceleration test (SHAT) and velocity step telst. Methods: This analysis includes 40 normal adults and six patients with the diagnosis of various vestibular disorders at the Tri-Service General Hospital during the past one year. Results: The normative data established in our study are similar to other reports in the literature. The coefficient of gain of SHAT is 36% in our study. Conclusions: By our clinical practice experience, many problems were found during the establishment of normative data and the examinations of the patients.
