Autogenous tooth transplantation was reported since 1950’ s. The concepts and surgical techniques were developed in the following 20 years. The success rate was promoted from 54% to 97%. And autogenous tooth transplantation also takes the advantages in morphology, biological function and healing time. However, autogenous tooth transplantations are banded due to limited donor source. On the other hand, dental implants were also developed in the past 40 years and success rates were over 90% in recent study. Dental implants take advantages in physical functions and resources, but in healing time and morphology. With the progress of dental sciences, the points of view of the two treatments were changed continuously. In this presentation, autogenous tooth transplantation would be reconsidered and compared with dental implants in biological, surgical and functional aspects for the current dentistry in 21St century.
