In the fast changing and highly complex health care environment, Evidence based medicine (EBM) by integrating the best available research evidence, clinical experience and patients expectation has became an essential element of good quality health care. EBM is also important for patient safety, medical education and decision making for medical resources allocation. Therefore, some systematic reviews and large-scale meta-analysis of clinical trials have been proposed globally. Especially, some Europe and American countries, New Zealand and Australia have set up nation wide protocols and related interdisciplinary organizations for these purposes. However, while the importance of EBM is gradually being recognized, it still lacks of sound assessment tools to evaluate the effectiveness of EBM workshops or associate educational activities, also lacks of a standardized and structured EBM core curriculum, All these factors hinder the further development of EBM health care. Although there are increasing interest in EBM researches internationally, Taiwan does not have enough systematic review or EBM associate publications, comparing to its strong economic achievements. Therefore, in order to achieve effective development of EBM and to enhance overall competitiveness on EBM national wide, the project aims are firstly to develop a valid evaluation instrument of EBM competence, secondly to design a reasonable EBM educational curriculum, thirdly to identify effective indicators for improving and monitoring our performance in systematic review research, forth, to build up structured critical appraisal skill to various research topics. Our project will result in enhancing the evidence based health care in our nation, and further sharing our experience to the international EBM society.
