Description

Sleep disturbance is considered to be a prevalent symptom among methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) patients. In fact, a previous study has indicated that close to one third of MMT patients had central sleep apnea. However, studies in this field have received little attention. Thus, little information is available on the relationship between sleep disturbances and correlates such as substance use, comorbid psychiatric disorders and symptoms, and neuropsychological function among MMT patients. This two-year case-control study proposal, by collecting adult MMT patients and age-, sex, and body mass index-matched normal subjects, aims to investigate the distributions of sleep disturbances and specific sleep disorders and their associations with substance use, comorbid psychiatric disorders and symptoms, and neuropsychological function among MMT patients. The results of this study proposal may pave the way for future studies.
