These three years will be devoted to developing a model of self (the Molecular Model of Belonging) in such a way that it can be empirically informative, engage conceptual issues in the philosophy of science, and engage a host of issues in applied ethics. Model development will be done in collaboration with both local scholars—the other co-PIs of this joint project—and, in keeping with the purpose of NSC’s goals for this program, a group of distinguished scholars from North America, Europe, Australia, and other countries within Asia (notably, Japan and Korea). Model development will also proceed in such a way as to engage young scholars—both students and post-docs—as well as to create opportunities for them to work with members of our international team, overseas.
