Leiomyoma is one of the common symptoms in gynecological diseases, and its high prevalence is related to disruption in quality of female’s life. The cause of pain at time of menses is believed to be due to the production of prostaglandin F2α in the endometrium during ovulatory cycle. Leiomyoma is related with smooth muscle cell over-proliferation. The female reproductive diseases (dysmenorrhea and leiomyoma) all cause a severe impact on the society, economy, labor power, and family of Taiwan. Resveratrol have a lot of physiological functions like anti-oxidation and anti-cancer effects. However, the relationship between leiomyoma and resveratrol remains veiled. In our preliminary experimental results, we had demonstrated that resveratrol could inhibited leiomyoma proliferation. In this study, two aims are designed in this grant to evaluate the resveratrol biological effects to female reproductive diseases. The aim 1 is to clarify the in vitro inhibitory effects of Resveratrol on the proliferation of leiomyoma cell lines and find out the anti-proliferation mechanism. The aim 2 is to test the anti-proliferation effects in leiomyoma animal model (in vivo). We believe that the results of the present study are quite valuable and will provide the potential application of resveratrol on the treatment of dysmenorrhea and leiomyoma.
