Organisation profile

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology provides excellent teaching and research to fields in bacteriology, mycology, virology, and immunology. Our faculty research in areas of microbiology includes antimicrobial resistance, fungal genetics, application of probiotics, and biomedical materials. Research in immunology, on the other hand, emphasizes on innate immunity, gene therapy for asthma, nutritional immunology, and the anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, and immune-modulating functions of natural products or synthetic agents. Research topics in virology include viral pathogenesis, immune response to viral infections, development of antiviral agents, and viral oncolytics. Our faculty members are also experienced in industrial-academic collaborations, which integrate clinical medicine and biotechnology. The department provides rigorous training aiming to enhance the students’ scientific research skills and competitiveness as future professionals in the research community and biotechnology industry.
